A Dogs Life

I was pacing,

outside the door,

mom was talking with the vet.

When the news came,

I was crying,

And pounding the car door,

I wondered

“why couldn’t you wait 24 more hours.”

The memories came back,

You and the cat,

Going at it hissing and scratch.

I bet you felt the pain to that scratch.

When I threw snowballs,

You wondered “ what was that”?

When I saw you on Easter,

It was your first snow,

You were chomping,

You wondered”what is that”

When I threw the tennis ball for you,

you wouldn’t look back.

You had the best jump ever,

we thought you could beat a human

at the Vertical and long jump.

When I went to bed at night,

when you weren’t there when I was little,

It was a big fright.

When I took you to the vet,

I knew not to look back,

Because, I knew you would make it through.

I guess I was wrong,

but I knew that you tried,

I also, knew that it was best for you.

I hope you know I’ll miss you.
