The topic of this article is about the Texas Rangers defeating the Houston Astros on Tuesday night. The title of my article is, “Rangers overtake Astros for first in AL West with 9th-inning win.” The article over this title can be found at: http://www.foxsports.com/mlb/story/texas-rangers-beat-houston-astros-for-1st-place-in-al-west-091615
On Tuesday the 15th, the Texas Rangers were down half a game behind the Houston Astros in their division. With a win they would be half a game up on Houston and be in first place. The Rangers developed an early lead in the 1st inning and went up 4-0 and then later in the 4th, they were tied 5-5. This score stayed the same all the way until the 9th inning when Mitch Moreland hit a sac-fly to score a run to win the game.
In my opinion this really surprises me that the Rangers pulled off a win on the first place Houston Astros, even though it shouldn’t be that surprising. The reason is that with this win it put Texas in a 5 game winning streak against Houston.
Derek Holland ,starting pitcher, had a good first 3 innings then after that he had 5 runs scored against him. The important thing is that the Texas Rangers used their stellar defense to hold them to scoring no runs the rest of the game. This really affects my attitude towards the Texas Rangers. The reason is that 1 year ago if the Rangers had 5 runs scored off them in 1 inning they would completely stop trying and give up. But the Rangers showed me and the other fans that they’re a different team now.
This event really affects all of the Rangers fans around the world. The reason is that the Rangers weren’t supposed to finish the season with over 65 wins due to many injuries. Now they are showing all of baseball even without their best players they’re still play-off contenders. Since the middle of August the Rangers have gone 15-8. The Rangers have definitely started to see more and more fans pour into the ballpark lately. Now, hopefully the Rangers can hold on to their lead for just 17 more games, then they will be eligible for the play-offs.
Go RANGERS!!
